The Australian University Team is preparing for its upcoming departure to the 25th World University Summer Universiade being held in Serbia, Belgrade.

It is anticipated that a contingent of approx. 200 athletes, managers and coaches will represent our sovereign land from 1-12 July across a variety of sports.

Reigning Gold Medallists, the Australian Women’s Basketball Team, are already fired up to defend their glorious victory in 2007.

The World University Summer Games (WUSG) are held every two years under the banner of the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The WUSG comprises competition in 10 compulsory sports and up to 3 optional sports determined by the host. These events are staged in various cities throughout the world.

The 2009 WUSG will be held in Belgrade, Serbia from 1 - 12 July. The compulsory sports contested are Athletics, Basketball, Fencing, Football, Gymnastics - artistic and rhythmic, Swimming, Diving, Water Polo, Tennis, Volleyball. The optional sports contested are Taekwondo and Archery.

Australian University Sport selects teams to represent Australia in the World University Summer Games in consultation with the relevant National Sporting Organisations (NSOs). The Australian Team will compete in the majority of the sports but not necessarily all of them.

With only 6 weeks to go until the team boards the plane, it is full steam ahead toward what will hopefully be another successful WUSG!!
